The presentation of new wines was attended by he Minister of Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, Government Officials and heads of Georgian winemaking companies.

Within the event, Director of Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture Levan Ujmajuridze and specialists of the center made presentations on the importance of research center for the development of wine industry, as well as the potential for the production of rare grape varieties. The guests had opportunity to taste over 20 wines of rare gape varieties.

As the Minister of Agriculture Levan Davitashvili stated, the experimental base of research and planting materials for perennial crops of Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture is located in Mtsketa municipality, Jigura on 80 hectares. There are 350 foreign and 437 Georgian varieties of vine species  protected in the collective plantation, including the collection of unique and rare varieties of Georgian grape varieties, which had been retrieved for a long time. Long ago, the above mentioned varieties were used for industrial purposes and the  highest quality table wine was made of them. In order to return these varieties to the industry, the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture is conducting winemaking  from rare varieties of vine and their research simultaneously  with restoration of grape varieties.

It\'s remarkable, that research-demonstration base of Jigura was created in 2007 by NPLE Agro and LTD Agro-Cartu with financial support of the charity fund Cartu. In 2014, former Prime Minister of Georgia, Bidzina Ivanishvili handed Jingura demonstration farm to the state, on the bases of which the LEPL  Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture was established.
