Introduction of Georgian Wines in Boston and New-York
Georgian wine presentation and tasting were organized in Boston and New-York, USA. The events were attended by the Head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili.
The National Wine Agency supported, 18 Georgian winemaking companies to participate in the international fair of wines and spirits “Boston Wine Expo” held in Boston.
This year it is the 26th time “Boston Wine Expo” is held, traditionally the event is visited by thousands of guests – wine importers, distributors, sommeliers and media representatives. Thousands of wine varieties from all over the world were introduced at the fair. Georgian wine stand got great interest and attraction from the guests.
The National Wine Agency and marketing company, “Marqenergie” jointly organized, “Georgian Wine Day” that was held in New-York, where 40 varieties of nearly 20 Georgian winemaking company Qvevri and classically produced wines were introduced. Within the framework of the event, two degustation-seminars were organized – the first one for wine importers and the second for wine fans and appraisers. This event also caused a great interest amongst people.
The Head of National Wine Agency stated, that Georgian wine has a great potential of establishment on the US market.
“The US market is one of the strategically important markets for Georgian wine and the potential on this market is great. The National Wine Agency together with the private sector has worked out the marketing strategy and working plan which we follow gradually. These actions have already brought visible results in increase of export in the United States” - commented Giorgi Samanishvili.
The National Wine Agency contractor marketing company, “Georgian Wine House”, Mamuka Tsereteli considers, that Georgian wine gets a good opportunity to establish on the US market from this kind of events.
“This kind of events are attended by many wine-writers, consumers, owners of the restaurants and shops, they come and taste wines, these degustations can help us achieve our goal for Georgian wine to take place on the US market once and for all, as one of the most important categories of wine” - said Mamuka Tsereteli.
Representatives of Georgian wine companies also consider, that participation in such kind of fairs and degustations is important.
“There are people at the exhibition, who come and tell us, that they have already tasted Georgian wine, or have heard about it and want to taste. This fair is a very good opportunity for Georgian wine to be introduced and tasted” - commented representative of “Kakhuri” company, Giorgi Pashalishvili, one of the participants of the exhibition.
Within the official visit in the US, the Head of the National Wine Agency organized meetings with the local importers, distributors, representatives of hotels, wine restaurants and media. (Bloomberg, Food and Wine Magazine).
Giorgi Samanishvili held the meeting in the Embassy of Georgia. The representatives of diplomatic office of Georgia once more expressed their readiness for support of Georgian wine popularization in the US.
In the recent years, this country has been outlined as one of the important and potentially increasing export markets for Georgian wine. According to the researches of wine consumption market, annually, over 3 billion liter wine is consumed in the USA, which gives the opportunity to create increasing export tendency with consecutive and effectual collaboration alongside Georgian wine-makers.
In 2016 Georgian wine export in the US amounted to nearly 300 thousand bottles, that is 19% higher, than the export of 2015.
