Qvevri Wine Success in France
Qvevri wine presentation and degustation was held in the cities of France. With National Wine Agency support, Frenchmen wine professionals had the opportunity to discover and taste wines of six Georgian natural wine producer companies: “Nikoladze Cellar”, “Antadze Cellar”, “Pheasant\'s Tears”, “Okro\'s Wines”, “Iago\'s Wine”, “Kortavebi Wine Cellar”.
Qvevri wine was introduced at the degustations organized in Toulouse and Lyon and this was the sixth time Georgian wine companies participated in the traditional fairs in Angers (Les Penitentes) and Somuri (La Dive Bouteille).
Head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili stated, that this wine introduction in France promotes Georgin wine publicity raise and popularisation not only in this country.
«Qvevri wine is exported Georgia to every direction, though it is specially approved in the traditional wine consumer countries such as France, Italy and etc. Despite of the fact, that Qvevri wine part in total wine export is not big, this is outstanding wine and known for everybody, who knows Georgian viticulture and wine-making culture and history. Qvevri wine is a kind of a visit card for us to make Georgian wine more famouse. Introduction of wine in France means popularisation of Georgian Qvevri wine on every important market worldwide», stated Giorgi Samanishvili.
Georgian wine-makers state, that in the previouse years, participation in the fairs mentioned above has brought considerable importers.
As a participant of the fair, Georgian wine-maker Iago Bitarishvili noted, that interest towards Qvevri wine was traditionally great this year.
«Interest towards Qvevri wine this year was even greater, especially at the degustations in Toulouse and Lyon. In this south part of France, Qvevri wine is successfully sold and these degustations will promote further growth of publicity of our wine. Also, great interest was expressed towards Qvevri wines at the fairs - Les Penitentes and La Dive Bouteille. In this period, wine producers, importers, writers gather here, also, new contracts were signed» - he mentioned.
Iago Bitarishvili says, that as Georgian wine cought great interest, the guests of the fair France, USA, Australia and other countries, expressed their desire for visiting Georgia at the New Wine Festival, which will be organized in May this year.
Simultaneously with the fair, Georgian wine-makers had the opportunity to meet Franchmen colleagues. ‘’La Dive Boutteille” and „Les Penitentes” are considered as one of the most important events of the year in the natural wine field, which is attended by world-famouse naturalist wine-makers, wine importers, buyers, media representatives and sommelliers.
Participation in different fairs worldwide grows Georgian wine popularity and publicity, accordingly export and import market raises. In such country, which is famouse for wine-making, as France, 36 thousand bottles of wine has been exported Georgia min 2016, as for January 2017, already 13 thousand bottles were exported.
