To promote awareness of Georgian wine and increase exports in the UK market, a 12-member group of representatives of influential British wine media and members of Swirl Wine Group visited Georgia. The visit was organised by the National Wine Agency and its contractor, Swirl Wine Group.
British wine professionals visited wine producers and wineries in Kartli and Kakheti, where they learned about the centuries-old history, culture and traditions of Georgian winemaking and tasted Georgian wines of various styles.
The group included representatives of Daily Mail, Decanter, The Guardian, BBC Radio, Wine Telegrams and other media outlets.
The United Kingdom is one of Europe’s largest wine importers and consumers. Since 2014, it has been identified as a strategic market with strong growth potential for Georgian wine exports.
To establish Georgian wine in the UK market, the National Wine Agency has worked with Master of Wine Sarah Abbott’s company, Swirl Wine Group Ltd, since 2015. In the first eight months of this year, Georgia exported nearly 268,000 litres of wine to the United Kingdom, 37% more than in the same period last year.
