Up to 32,000 Tonnes of Grapes Processed Across Kakheti
Of the grapes processed, 19,000 tonnes are Saperavi, 7,500 tonnes are Rkatsiteli, and the remainder are grapes of various other varieties.
At this stage, nearly 500 wine companies are registered with the Grape Harvest Coordination Center which will gradually begin receiving grapes.
The state-owned Harvest Management Company is receiving grapes from winegrowers at 14 locations across various municipalities of Kakheti.
Harvest intake is actively under way in most municipalities of Kakheti.
This year’s harvest is forecast at around 320,000 tonnes.
To ensure that the harvest is carried out in an organised manner and that the entire crop is sold, the Government of Georgia has decided that, in the event of a surplus, all winegrowers will have an opportunity to sell their grapes. To this end, Harvest Management Company LLC will purchase grapes grown in Kakheti from individuals in accordance with the established conditions.
The price for sound Saperavi grapes of standard quality with a sugar content of at least 21% is set at GEL 1.50 per kilogram. For Saperavi grapes with a sugar content of 17% to 21% and/or grapes that are partially damaged, the price will be GEL 0.90 per kilogram. The price for Saperavi grapes with a sugar content below 17% and/or grapes that are damaged is set at GEL 0.30 per kilogram.
For grapes of other vine varieties permitted under the Georgian Law on Vine and Wine, the price for sound grapes with a sugar content of at least 20% will be GEL 1.30 per kilogram. The price will be GEL 0.80 per kilogram for grapes with a sugar content of 17% to 20%, and GEL 0.30 per kilogram for grapes with a sugar content below 17%.
