08.04.2026

With financial support from the National Wine Agency and organized by the agency’s contractor, the marketing company Red Bridge, a Georgian wine tasting seminar was held in Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido Province, Japan.

The tasting was led by Kenichi Ohashi, the head of Red Bridge, and Master of Wine, who gave a presentation about Georgian wine. The presentation included information about the centuries-old history of Georgian winemaking, traditions, main grape varieties, and the development of the modern Georgian wine industry.

Georgian wine was also presented at the event by Teimuraz Lezhava, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Japan.

Events of this format play an important role in strengthening international partnerships. Through them, wine producers receive direct feedback on specific market demands and better adapt to consumer interests. These activities contribute to both export growth and the refinement of production standards and marketing strategies, which in the long term strengthens the competitiveness of Georgian wine in the international market.

The first large-scale presentation of Georgian wine in Japan took place in 2014. In subsequent years, also with the support of the National Wine Agency, Georgian companies actively participated in international exhibitions, includingFoodex Japan”, “RAW Wine TokyoandWine and Gourmet Japan”, as well as in local wine competitions.

In 2019, a large-scale exhibition "Georgia, the Homeland of Wine" was held in Tokyo, which hosted thousands of visitors for 2 months and significantly increased the awareness of Georgian wine in the Japanese market.
