Georgian wine is in the spotlight in the March issue of the influential American wine publication “Wine Spectator”
With the financial support of the National Wine Agency and organized by the Agency’s U.S.-based marketing contractor, “Colangelo & Partners”, three articles about Georgian wine were published in the March issue of one of the most popular and competent American wine magazines, “Wine Spectator.”
Georgia is featured on the magazine's cover and occupies one full advertising page, which is particularly important for the strategic global promotion of Georgian wine and increasing its international recognition. The online version of the magazine became available in February. These articles about Georgian wine in the magazine were published for the first time in 14 years.
The first article, “Georgia in the Spotlight,” authored by the magazine's senior editor, Bruce Sanderson, provides an overview of Georgian wine. “Georgian wines are entering a new phase. The Eastern European country, the homeland of wine with an 8000-year wine culture, benefits from a significant increase in tourism, while its wide range of local grape varieties, distinctive winemaking style, and hospitable environment create fertile ground for adventure seekers,” the article states. The article also discusses the second season of the Emmy-winning multifaceted series “DROPS OF GOD,” where Georgian wine is in the spotlight. The second article, titled “The Supra,” is dedicated to the Georgian feast and gastronomy. The author, Julia Larson, focuses on Georgian cuisine and dishes, as well as the traditions and cultural importance of the supra. The third article presents evaluations of Georgian wines. Bruce Sanderson selected 56 Georgian wines from 23 producers for the tasting, of which the highest rating-93 points-was received by “Binekhi Kakhuri 2023” (amber wine). In total, 18 wines received 90 or more points on the Wine Spectator 100-point rating scale, which is quite a high assessment.
