The International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) has been held in Georgia since 2022. The official partner of the competition is the Gurjaani Wine Festival, and the supporter is the National Wine Agency.
In 2025, the competition was held in Batumi. The competition was chaired by IWSC committee member and Master of Wine Sarah Abbott.
“This year’s results of the IWSC Georgia Wine and Spirits Competition clearly demonstrate how quickly and far the country has come in recent years, both in terms of improving the quality of its wine and the diversity and scale of its winemaking,” notes the influential British media outlet “The Buyer,” in which the author of the article, wine writer Sunny Hodge, summarizes the results of the IWSC Georgia 2025 International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Sunny Hodge is one of the influential British wine experts who, along with local experts, judged the wines participating in the competition. He is the founder of London wine bars Diogenes the Dog and Aspen & Meursault. Sunny Hodge's book on the science of wine, The Cynics Guide to Wine, was published in April 2025.
“Georgia is a crossroads of worlds – it is located between Europe and Asia, and its cuisine and wine culture combine the best elements of the traditions of the Old and New Worlds,” the article states. See the link to the article
