At the WWTG annual summary meeting held in Kelowna, Canada from October 26-29, participants discussed the renewal of wine trade regulatory agreements and the sustainable development of the industry.
"At the meeting, we discussed ways to make it easier for wine producers to overcome trade barriers and the role of governments in the development of the wine industry. The main goal of Georgia's participation in the World Wine Trade Group is to increase the export potential of Georgian wine and diversify export markets, so that more unique and high-quality Georgian wine is sold on international markets," said Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
The working meeting discussed WWTG's role in implementing global wine market initiatives, promoting trade in non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beverages, and the use of artificial intelligence in WWTG's activities.
Founded in 1998, the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) is an association of wine-producing countries, and along with Georgia, its members include the USA, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, and Uruguay. The main goal of the organization is to simplify wine trade, promote international wine trade, and implement joint actions to remove trade barriers. WWTG is an important platform for information sharing and coordinating positions on trade barriers.
Georgia chaired the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) in 2014 and 2023 on a rotational basis for a term of one year. In both cases, the activities of the Georgian side were positively assessed by the member countries. Currently, Canada is the chairing country of the WWTG.
