"To date, more than 250,000 tons of grapes have been processed in Kakheti," said Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency, at a briefing today.
According to the Chairman of the Agency, within the framework of the 2025 harvest, the grape harvest will total around 300,000 tons. Levan Mekhuzla also spoke about the reasons for the increase in the flow of grape-laden vehicles to processing plants.
"The daily processing reaches 10-12 thousand tons, which is a very high figure. In September, there was abundant rainfall, especially in Sagarejo and Gurjaani, twice as much, and in the case of Telavi, the amount of rainfall exceeded the figure of the same period last year by 4 times, which led to a reduction in the number of days favorable for harvesting and caused peak harvesting days and, subsequently, queues. The flow of vehicles loaded with grapes to wineries, especially during the peak harvest period, is a working process: the delivery of grapes to wineries is related to accounting and specific technological procedures, which require a certain amount of time. At the same time, each enterprise has a daily processing limit within its own technical capabilities and depending on its capacity," said Levan Mekhuzla.
The chairman of the National Wine Agency explained that the vintage coordination headquarters has developed the following scheme to control queues: every day, members of the coordination headquarters provide information to the authorized representatives of the respective villages about the daily processing quotas and the addresses of the delivering enterprises. Based on these quotas, the village representatives issue certificates to the winegrowers regarding the specific enterprise and the quantities that can be processed on that particular day.
