As of October 10, a total of about 260,000 tons of grapes have been processed in Kakheti.
Approximately 18,000 winegrowers have delivered their harvest to wineries.
Of the total grapes processed by wineries, around 130,000 tons are of the Rkatsiteli variety, about 112,000 tons are Saperavi, and the rest are various other grape varieties.
At this stage, up to 10,000 tons of grapes are processed daily in Kakheti, indicating that the harvest season is in an active phase.
In Racha, specifically in the Ambrolauri municipality, 1.4 thousand tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes have been processed. The forecasted yield for the Racha region is about 2,000 tons, and around 800 winegrowers have already delivered their harvest.
To encourage private sector participation in the harvest process and to ensure the organized collection of grapes in the Racha region, the government has introduced a subsidy program. The subsidy will be granted to all companies that purchase and process at least 3 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties harvested in the “Khvanchkara” microzone and pay winegrowers no less than 8 GEL per kilogram. The amount of the state subsidy that wine companies in the Racha-Lechkhumi region will receive is 4 GEL per kilogram, both for Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes.
In the Kakheti region, subsidies for private wine companies are no longer provided. According to the decision of the Government of Georgia, this year the state enterprise “Harvest Management Company” LLC purchases surplus grapes from the Kakheti region at differentiated prices based on quality: 1.50 GEL per kilogram for Saperavi grapes, 1.20 GEL per kilogram for other wine varieties permitted under the Law of Georgia on Vine and Wine, and 1.00 GEL per kilogram for substandard or damaged/diseased grapes.
