The grape harvest is actively continuing in Kakheti and Racha.
As of October 9, up to 247,000 tons of grapes have been processed in Kakheti. About 17,000 growers have delivered their grapes to wine enterprises. The harvest remains in an active phase, with a daily processing rate of around 10,000 tons. Of the grapes processed by wineries, up to 123,000 tons are Rkatsiteli, about 108,000 tons are Saperavi, and the rest are of various other grape varieties.
The harvest is also active in Racha: in Ambrolauri Municipality, 1,000 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes have been processed, which accounts for almost half of the projected yield.
To encourage the involvement of the private sector and ensure the organized collection of the harvest, the Government of Georgia has launched a subsidy program in the Racha region. The subsidy will be granted to all companies that purchase and process at least 3 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes harvested in the Khvanchkara microzone, and pay no less than 8 GEL per kilogram to the grower. The amount of the state subsidy for wine companies operating in the Racha-Lechkhumi region is 4 GEL per kilogram, for both Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties.
In the Kakheti region, subsidies are no longer provided to private wine companies. According to the decision of the Government of Georgia, this year the state-owned company “Harvest Management Company” LLC will purchase the surplus grapes at differentiated prices based on quality:
• Saperavi grapes harvested in Kakheti — 1.50 GEL per kilogram;
• Other wine grape varieties permitted under the Law of Georgia on Vine and Wine — 1.20 GEL per kilogram;
• Non-standard, damaged, or diseased grapes — 1.00 GEL per kilogram.
