Of the grapes processed by the wineries, about 93,000 tons are Rkatsiteli, approximately 86,000 tons are Saperavi, and the remaining quantity consists of various other grape varieties. Around 14,000 grape growers have delivered their harvest to the wineries.
About 600 wine companies/wineries are registered with the Harvest Coordination Headquarters, which participate in the grape reception and processing at different stages; among them, around 370 have been involved in the harvest process at various stages.
This year, the Kakheti region expects a grape harvest of approximately 200,000–250,000 tons.
It is noteworthy that, according to the decision of the Government of Georgia, this year the state enterprise “Harvest Management Company” LLC is purchasing surplus grapes at differentiated prices based on quality: Saperavi grapes harvested in Kakheti are purchased at 1.50 GEL per kilogram, other wine grape varieties permitted under the Law of Georgia “On Vine and Wine” at 1.20 GEL per kilogram, and substandard or damaged/diseased grapes at 1.00 GEL per kilogram. Private wineries in the Kakheti region will no longer receive subsidies.
Any information related to the grape harvest can be obtained through the hotlines of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia at 1501, and the Harvest Coordination Headquarters at 0322 193 283.
