As of September 30, approximately 163,000 tons of grapes have been processed in Kakheti.
Around 13,000 grape growers have supplied their harvest to wine-producing enterprises. The grape collection process is ongoing in all municipalities of the Kakheti region.
Of the grapes processed by the wineries, about 78,000 tons are of the Rkatsiteli variety, around 74,000 tons are Saperavi, and the rest are various other grape varieties.
Approximately 550 wine companies/wineries are registered with the Harvest Coordination Headquarters, participating in different stages of the grape reception and processing; among them, 330 were involved at various stages of the harvest.
This year, the expected grape yield in the Kakheti region is between 200,000 and 250,000 tons.
It is noteworthy that, by the decision of the Government of Georgia, this year, the state enterprise "Harvest Management Company" LLC will purchase surplus grapes at differentiated prices based on quality: in the Kakheti region, Saperavi grapes will be purchased at 1.50 GEL per kilogram, other permitted wine grape varieties (in accordance with the Law of Georgia on Vine and Wine) at 1.20 GEL, and substandard or damaged/diseased grapes at 1.00 GEL per kilogram. No subsidy will be provided to private wine companies in the Kakheti region.
