As of September 26, 133,000 tons of grapes have been processed in the Kakheti region.
The grape harvest in Kakheti is in an active phase, with the daily processing rate exceeding 10,000 tons; the grape collection is underway in almost all municipalities of the Kakheti region.
Around 11,000 winegrowers have delivered grapes to wine enterprises.
Out of the grapes processed by wine enterprises, about 64,000 tons are Rkatsiteli, about 62,000 tons are Saperavi, and the rest are various other grape varieties.
A total of 532 wine companies/wineries are registered with the Harvest Coordination Headquarters, which will be involved in the grape receiving and processing process; of these, 270 have already participated in different stages of the harvest.
This year, the Kakheti region expects a harvest of 200,000–250,000 tons of grapes.
It is noteworthy that, according to the decision of the Government of Georgia, this year the surplus grapes are being purchased by the state-owned enterprise Harvest Management Company LLC at differentiated prices depending on quality: Saperavi grapes harvested in the Kakheti region – at 1.50 GEL, other wine grape varieties permitted by the Law of Georgia “On Vine and Wine” – at 1.20 GEL, and non-standard/damaged or diseased grapes – at 1.00 GEL. In the Kakheti region, wine companies will no longer receive subsidies.
