Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla: "Georgia has officially submitted its bid to host the OIV Congress in 2027."
Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla, participated in the 46th World Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), held in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova.
The main theme of the congress was: "The Path to the Future of Vine and Wine: Sustainability, Increasing Value, Strengthening Innovation."
"As part of the congress, we held business meetings with the leadership of the OIV. It is noteworthy that Georgia has officially submitted its bid to host the OIV Congress in 2027, which would be a great honor for our country. The decision on this matter is expected to be announced by the OIV in the fall of this year. It is also worth mentioning that Georgia has already hosted high-level OIV events twice — the 33rd International Congress in 1962 and the 8th General Assembly of the OIV in 2010. Georgia is the cradle of winemaking, while also being home to a modern and advanced wine industry. Our country maintains a close relationship with the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), which is of utmost importance for the development of the sector, the production of high-quality Georgian wine, and the growth of its global recognition and sales," stated Levan Mekhuzla.
The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) is an intergovernmental organization composed of 51 member countries, including Georgia. The organization’s activities include developing recommendations on wine production and viticultural practices, grape processing for the food industry, and supporting other international intergovernmental bodies. It also plays a key role in the establishment and enforcement of international standards in the wine sector.
Notably, the Director General of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), John Barker, was in Georgia on an official working visit in May this year.
