Wine Sector Institutional Reform Project Discussion
Wine sector institutional reform project discussion was held in “Tbilsi Marriott”, Tbilisi which was prepared by international wine expert John Barker (New Zealand), invited guest by Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.
The aim of the wine sector institutional reform project is to improve coordination between branch corresponding state departments and private sector, formalization of existing collaboration and more inclusion of private sector in the process of making decisions, marketing activities or control and regulation issues.
The meeting was attended by the cabinet minister of Agriculture of Georgia - Levan Davitashvili, Head of National Wine Agency - Giorgi Samanishvili, representatives of the project supporting international food and agriculture organization - FAO, association “Georgian Wine”, “Kakhetian Wine Guild”, “Qvevri Fund”, Georgian Sommelier Association and other organizations of winery field.
As the cabinet minister of Agriculture a Georgia, Levan Davitashvili stated, representatives of wine industry should be included in working out more effective model of reforming the field and institutional arrangement as much as possible.
Expert, John Barker spoke about the needs of wine sector, role of government and industry institutions in the field development point, necessity of private sector inclusion in the planning process, made examples of the countries having successful wine industry. After the examination of the project, there was discussion between the members.
The meeting was summed up by the Heard of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili. As he said, this was the first time of discussion of the project in such format. As he explained, this was the intermediate presentation of the project and more detailed suggestions will be discussed in Autumn of the current year.
