With the support of the National Wine Agency and the ,,Georgian Wine’’ Association, twenty Georgian wine-producing companies participated at the Merano Wine Festival in Italy.
As part of the festival, a large-scale tasting of Georgian wines was conducted, featuring selections from various regions, including the award-winning wines of the Qvevri wine and Saperavi International Competition. The event was attended by wine professionals and journalists, and was led by Italian sommelier Guido Invernizzi.
„It is very exciting to taste a wine with an 8,000-year aging history. Georgian wine is gaining international recognition, a testament to its exceptional quality. Both traditional and modern winemaking techniques are practiced in Georgia. During my last visit, I had the pleasure of tasting Racha-Lechkhumi Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli wines, the flavors of which remain vivid in my memory. I hope to find wines of this variety available here.“, - stated Guido Invernizzi, a member of the Italian Sommelier Association.
With a 33-year history, the Merano Wine Festival is one of the premier international festivals, attracting European wine producers, experts, and journalists.
The positioning of Georgian wine at the aforementioned festival is significant, as it illustrates that Georgia, recognized as the homeland of wine with an 8,000-year history of wine production, continues to hold a prominent place in global markets while consistently evolving.
It should be noted that in 2022, as part of the Merano Wine Festival, a Georgian Qvevri was installed in the center of one of Italy's oldest cities, recognized as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage monument.
