The vintage season has commenced in Racha.
In the Racha region of the Ambrolauri municipality, the grape picking and storage process has commenced, with 140 tons of grapes already processed. The projected harvest for this year is approximately 2,000 tons. Over 50 winemaking companies are expected to participate in the harvesting activities.
"Due to the climatic conditions, the vintage in Racha this year took place earlier than in previous years. Racha is a significant region for viticulture and winemaking in Georgia, known for producing the unique local wine "Kvanchkara," along with other interesting wines. To enhance support for the vintage and specifically to encourage private sector involvement in the harvest process, a subsidy program will be implemented in the Racha region by government decision. This initiative aims to ensure the timely storage and maintenance of grape quality.“, - noted Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
All companies that purchase and process a minimum of 3 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes cultivated in the Khvanchkara microzone will be eligible for a subsidy and are required to compensate the winegrower with a minimum payment of 8 GEL. In the Racha-Lechkhumi region, companies receive a state subsidy of 4 GEL for each kilogram of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape.
To ensure the varietal accuracy and quality of locally produced "Khvanchkara" wine, ampelographic assessments will be conducted on the grapes received at all collection points. Additionally, special checkpoints have been established at the region's entrances to prevent the importation of grapes from other municipalities and their subsequent mixing with Mujuretuli and Aleksandrouli.
To facilitate the organization of the vintage 2024, the coordination headquarters has been established in Ambrolauri. For further information, please contact the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture hotline at 1501.
