As of September 2nd, a total of 13,000 tons of grapes have been processed as part of the 2024 vintage.
In the Kakheti region, the vintage traditionally commences in the municipality of Dedoplistskaro, although a minor quantity of grapes is also processed in various other municipalities throughout Kakheti.
In 2024, the projected grape harvest is 300,000 tons. Currently, a total of 13,000 tons of grapes have already been processed, with 7,500 tons being Rkatsiteli, 2,300 tons being Saperavi, and the remaining amount consisting of various grape varieties. As of now, there are already 230 registered wine enterprises at the vintage coordination headquarters.
Depending on the grape quality, the prices at this stage are set at 1.07 GEL per 1 kg of Rkatsiteli and 1.30-1.40 GEL per 1 kg of Saperavi.
It should be noted that the government of Georgia is offering vintage subsidies this year as well, with the aim of promoting the sale and realization of grape harvest by winegrower farmers and supporting the stable development of the wine industry. As a result, over 20,000 winegrowers will have the opportunity to sell their harvest, while 500 companies involved in the vintage will be able to seamlessly purchase and process grapes.
All companies that purchase and process a minimum of 100 tons of Rkatsiteli grapes grown in the Kakheti region during the 2024 vintage will be eligible for a state subsidy. These companies will also be required to pay a minimum price of 1.00 GEL per kilogram of grapes.
In Telavi, the Vintage Coordination Headquarters and the hotline of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture (1501) operate 24 hours a day.
