The National Wine Agency in the city of Mtskheta is promoting the concept that "Georgia is the birthplace of wine."
As part of the official festivities commemorating Georgia's Independence Day, the National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture proudly presents the concept - "Georgia: The Birthplace of Wine."
Approximately 10 local wine producers are taking part in the event. They are showcasing visual and informative materials that delve into the rich history and traditions of Georgian wine and grape culture, highlighting the diverse range of wine and grape varieties found in the Kartli region. Additionally, a dedicated "Sommelier's Corner" has been established, featuring Jaba Dzimistarashvili, the esteemed winner of the "Best Sommelier 2021" competition, who will expertly guide attendees through a professional tasting experience.
The event held in Mtskheta was attended by Chairman Levan Mekhuzla of the National Wine Agency, Deputy Chairman Zurab Vacharadze, State Commissioner of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region - Davit Nozadze, and other local government representatives.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the citizens of our nation on the occasion of Georgia's Independence Day. Independence stands as a paramount achievement, serving as an indispensable prerequisite for the advancement and progress of our country. The agricultural sector plays a vital role in bolstering Georgia's economy, with the field of viticulture and winemaking, boasting a rich 8,000-year history, occupying a special place. Presently, visitors to the historic city of Mtskheti have the invaluable opportunity to sample Georgia's exceptional wines, whilst also delving into its history, contemporary accomplishments, and the challenges facing the field of Georgian viticulture and winemaking.’’- Levan Mekhuzla stated.
Throughout the day, the exhibition and sale of Georgian wine takes place in the centrally-located square, organized in the heart of the city. Additionally, there is an interactive space catered to children, offering both entertainment and educational activities. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy live performances by children's and local folklore ensembles. Lastly, an exhibition of military equipment is also available for viewing.
At 17:10 the Abkhazian Capella will perform the Georgian national anthem.
The day will conclude with a gala concert as the finale of the event.
Events dedicated to May 26th are organized by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and held in Mtskheta, Zugdidi, and Ozurgeti.
