"Georgia is the homeland of wine" - With this message, the Simplesmente Vinho exhibition in Portugal hosted visitors for four days
With the initiative and financial support of the National Wine Agency, 11 wineries producing Qvevri wine participated in the Simplesmente Vinho exhibition held in Porto, Portugal. A total of 112 producers of natural wine from Portugal, Spain, and Georgia participated in the exhibition. According to Georgian winemakers, there was great interest in Qvevri wine, which gives them the opportunity to find new trade partners.
According to Nino Mchedlishvili, head of the strategic planning and coordination department of the National Wine Agency, the agency is actively promoting Georgian wine, including Qvevri wine, in strategic markets. Qvevri wine-producing companies participate in important international exhibitions around the world, and their products are presented at specialized tastings.
As part of the Simplesmente Vinho exhibition, Georgian wine tastings and a gala dinner were held for wine professionals and trade representatives. The conference "Qvevri, Dolia E Talha" was also held, which was dedicated to the technology of winemaking in Qvevri. The conversation at the conference also touched on some regions of Portugal where wine is placed in clay vessels. Georgian winemaker Zurab Topuridze presented Qvevri wine to the participants. After the conference, a screening of the full-length documentary film "OUR BLOOD IS WINE" was organized. The film, directed by American film director Emily Railsback, explores the eight-thousand-year-old traditions of Georgian winemaking and premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2017.
The presentation of Georgian wine at the Simplesmente Vinho exhibition was held with the organizational support of the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of Portugal.
"The participation of Georgian producers in this exhibition is very important for increasing awareness of Georgian wine. It is particularly significant that Georgian wine has found recognition in a country that has great traditions of wine production," said the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Portugal, Giorgi Mirtskhulava.
