In order to enhance the competitiveness of alcoholic beverages produced in Georgia, both locally and internationally, the relevant departments of the National Wine Agency consistently monitor the quality of Georgian wine and other alcoholic beverages.
In 2023, state control and supervision were implemented in 59 companies to determine the compliance of the wine production process with the requirements set by Georgian legislation. Out of the 286 samples taken, violations were found in 49 cases.
During the reporting period, inspections were carried out in 66 companies. Out of the 1,332 samples taken, violations were found in 51 cases. Furthermore, renowned international auditing companies, such as "SGS" and "Bureau Veritas," inspected the products of 74 companies in the Customs Clearance Zone. Out of the 601 samples taken, violations were found in 27 cases. This process entails assessing the conformity of the submitted alcoholic beverage samples with the specific batch.
For the purpose of conducting organoleptic testing on exported alcoholic beverages, a total of 289 tastings were performed. A grand total of 13,091 samples were collected, with 12,584 being evaluated positively and 507 being assessed negatively.
To strengthen the quality control of Georgian wine and other alcoholic beverages, a legislative amendment came into effect on January 1, 2023. This amendment mandates the compulsory certification of alcoholic beverages produced in Georgia that are intended for sale on the local market. In 2023, a total of 7,874 certificates were issued for the local market. In 2024, the inspection process will be conducted more rigorously in local market establishments at points of sale.
