The event was held with the support of the National Wine Agency, and the titles of "Georgian wine enthusiast" and "Georgian wine expert" were awarded to the winners of the theoretical and practical tests of winemaking. 20 representatives of the wine industry received the titles of "Georgian wine enthusiast" and "Georgian wine expert".
In his welcoming speech, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Iuri Nozadze, spoke about the support provided by the state for the promotion of Georgian wine.
"The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the National Wine Agency cooperate closely with the associations and other professional organizations in the field of winemaking. One of these is the Georgian Sommelier Association, which has implemented a number of successful projects with the support of the National Wine Agency. It is noteworthy that the profession of sommelier has already established itself and is actively developing in Georgia. In recent years, representatives of the wine industry have especially appreciated this profession, because it is the sommelier who presents the wine to the customer and conveys information about the culture and history of wine, he/she is a direct intermediary between the wine producer and the customer", - noted Iuri Nozadze.
Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla, spoke about the projects that the Georgian Sommelier Association has been implementing for many years with the support of the National Wine Agency. He emphasized the necessity of the professional and educational programs in the field of winemaking, which are implemented by the Georgian Sommelier Association.
According to the decision of Shalva Khetsuriani, the president of the Georgian Sommelier Association, several young people employed in the field of winemaking will be funded to study in the training programs of the association.
Georgian Sommelier Association (GSA) was established in 2003; Since 2008, it has been a member of the Association of Sommelier International (ASI), which unites 63 countries. GSA is the initiator of several wine educational training courses in Georgia, including "Georgian Wine", "International Sommelier", "WSET" and others. The Association of Sommeliers, with the support of the National Wine Agency, implements a number of projects to popularize Georgian wine.
