Qvevri wine is becoming more and more popular outside of Georgia", - Isabelle Legeron, master of wine
15 wineries –producers of Qvevri wine participated in the international exhibition of natural wines "RAW Wine Berlin 2023" in Berlin, with the support of the National Wine Agency and the Embassy of Georgia in the Federal Republic of Germany. "RAW Wine" is one of the outstanding international exhibitions where producers of high quality natural, organic and biodynamic wines gather. The organizer of the exhibition is Isabelle Legeron, a famous master of wine from France.
"It is amazing that Qvevri wine is becoming more and more popular outside of Georgia; People are becoming more and more familiar with this traditional method of making Qvevri wine, which you have been using in Georgia for 8 thousand years. It is worth noting the support of the National Wine Agency towards small producers. Germany and Central Europe is a very important market for small producers, every year people know more and more about Georgian wine. It is incredible what you achieved as a tiny country with such a big wine reputation. People are already familiar with the Georgian grape varieties Kisi, Khikhvi, Saperavi, they know these wines and Qvevri wine," said Isabelle Legeron.
The presentation of Georgian Qvevri wine at "RAW Wine Berlin" is important for the promotion of Qvevri wine, finding potential importers by wine producers and the growth of exports.
According to German sommelier and wine expert Inge Mainzer, the participation of Georgian producers in this exhibition is a very good opportunity for local consumers to get to know Georgian products.
"Many people are particularly interested in amber and natural wines in the German market. When I talk about Georgian wine, many people say that they are interested in your grape varieties. I think one of the perspectives that Georgia has in the German market is the focus on local grape varieties, amber wine, as well as on the classical method, quality, which differentiates it in the international wine market. In my opinion, no other country has a similar opportunity," said the wine expert.
This year, 150 natural wine producers from 20 countries were represented at the Berlin exhibition. Traditionally, there has been great interest in Georgian wine from wine professionals and visitors.
It should be noted that with the support of the National Wine Agency, Qvevri wine wineries participated in "RAW Wine" exhibitions in New York, Copenhagen and Los Angeles in 2023.
