Tbilisi hosted the annual meeting of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG)
"Georgia is the chairman country of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) in 2023. Accordingly, in Tbilisi we hosted the member countries of the mentioned group, as well as the representatives of the observer countries of the organization: Great Britain and Moldova. During the two-day work of the group, discussions were held on various trade barriers and ways to facilitate international trade for wine producers including the markets such as the US, Canada, UK and others. The WWTG meeting held in Tbilisi was productive; Accordingly, steps will be taken to sell even more Georgian wine on strategic markets", said the chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla.
The annual meeting of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) was opened by the Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia; The event was attended by Iuri Nozadze, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Levan Mekhuzla, the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, and Tina Kezeli, the Executive Director of the "Georgian Wine" Association.
It should be noted that in March of this year, at the meeting of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) held in Brussels, the chairmanship of the said organization was handed over to Georgia from the United States of America for a period of one year. Georgia started to exercise the authority of the chairmanship from May 1 of this year. WWTG members, along with Georgia, are USA, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and Uruguay.
During the annual meeting held in Tbilisi, the participants discussed the current state of the world wine industry, Resolutions of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), coordination with the World Trade Organization (WTO), strengthening the cooperation between WWTG member countries and other issues related to the simplifying of wine trade between countries.
Within the framework of the WWTG annual meeting, a wine tour was held in the Kartli region. The participants of the meeting visited the wine companies "Chateau Mukhrani" and "Iago Wine", as well as ruins of ancient City Dzalisi.
During the chairmanship of WWTG, the main coordinator of the organization's activities is the National Wine Agency.
