On October 10-12, within the framework of the "Wine Days" established by the Prime Minister's initiative, Tbilisi is hosting an international scientific conference.
11.10.2023

The first day of the conference was dedicated to the results obtained within the " Scientific Project of Georgian Vine and Wine Culture Research" in the fields of archaeology, molecular biology, denomy, agroclimatology, winemaking and viticulture. The participants of the conference were presented with the results obtained by various researchers and institutions of the world involved in the project. Among them were the results of the archaeological excavations of the Gori and Shulaveri Gora. These studies explain the domestication of the vine through biological studies, the stages of the transition from the wild vine to the cultivated vine. Studies also include a global perspective on the place and role of Georgian vine and wine in the world.
Such presentation was made for the first time within the program.
Within the framework of the conference, the positive properties of Georgian vine against various phytoplasmal diseases were also discussed, which is very important for the development of the field of winery and viticulture. Also the use of yeasts as bio control agents was discussed, which is one of the new directions in winemaking.
It should be noted that it is on the basis of these studies that the 8-thousand-year continuous development of Georgian viticulture and winemaking is reconstructed and the entire spectrum is presented.
The conference " Scientific Project of Georgian Vine and Wine Culture Research - Results and News" is organized by the National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and supported by the Government of Georgia, and is attended by 22 scientists, researchers and experts of 11 countries (Georgia, Italy, France, Spain, England, USA, Canada , Israel, Brazil, South Africa, Croatia).
