The vintage has started in Racha
Grape picking and storing process has started in Racha, Ambrolauri Municipality. The harvest this year is expected to amount about 1500-2000 tons. More than 40 companies will be involved in the harvest storing process.
"Racha is a unique region for the viticulture and winemaking in Georgia, where the local wine "Khvanchkara" is produced. Under the decision of the government, in order to support the vintage 2023, in particular, to stimulate the involvement of the private sector in the vintage and fully store the harvest, a subsidy program will be implemented in the Racha region," noted Levan Mekhuzla, the Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
All companies that will purchase and process at least 3 tons of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes grown in the Khvanchkara microzone and that will pay the vine-grower at least 7 GEL, will receive a subsidy. Companies will be given a state subsidy of 4 GEL per 1 kg of Aleksandrouli and per 1 kg of Mujuretuli in the Racha-Lechkhumi region.
In order to protect the varietal accuracy and ensure the quality of wine of geographical indication "Khvanchkara", ampelographs monitor the grapes to be handed over at all grape receiving points. In addition, special checkpoints have been set up at the entrances of the region to prevent grapes from being brought in from other municipalities and mixed with Mujuretuli and Aleksandrouli.
In order to carry out vintage 2023 in organized manner, the coordination headquarters for the harvest is operating in Ambrolauri. Additional information can be obtained through the hotline of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture - 1501.
