Up to 8 thousand tons of grapes have been processed in Kakheti region, within the framework of Vintage 2023
"The vintage is slowly entering the active phase. This primarily includes the municipalities of Sighnaghi and Dedoplistskaro, where grapes traditionally ripen early. The private sector is very active, which is a positive sign that the state interferes less in the process of buying grapes. However, the state is ready to buy grapes damaged due to climatic conditions, for which there will be no demand from the private sector, and to pay farmers 90 tetri per 1 kilogram. From next week, other municipalities will be involved in the process of harvesting and the harvest will be more active throughout the Kakheti region" - said the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla.
Of the processed grapes, up to 3.6 thousand tons are Rkatshiteli, 3 thousand tons are Saperavi and the rest are grapes of various varieties. 170 wine enterprises have already been registered in the vintage coordination headquarters, which will be involved in the grape processing.
According to the government's decision, this year, within the framework of Vintage 2023, the state will subsidize Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri green varieties of grapes. The mentioned decision will motivate up to 25 thousand winegrowers and up to 500 wine producers to continue their activities and give them the opportunity to develop.
