The ceremony of certification was held in the "Gemini Winery House" in Nafareuli village of Telavi municipality in Kakheti. The state program "Pitcher and pitcher wine specialist" is implemented by the Pitcherers’ Association "Kvevris Mze".
Graduates of the program were awarded the qualifications of Pitcher and pitcher wine specialist. Levan Mekhuzla, the chairman of the National Wine Agency, and Levan Ujmajuridze, the director of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center, gave them certificates.
"Pitcher wine is a completely unique product of Georgian winemaking and one of its competitive advantages. The method of making wine in a pitcher, which is already 8 thousand years old, has been protected by "UNESCO" as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity since 2013. That is why it is very important to implement such vocational program that concentrates on the quality of pitcher wine and the best presentation of its essence", said the chairman of the National Wine Agency.
The founder of "Kvevris Mze" Pitcherers’ Association, Gia Gamtkistulashvili, noted that there is a great interest in Pitcher wine worldwide. Accordingly, representatives of small and medium-sized wineries, as well as large companies, young winemakers were involved in the training process.
"We teach them vocational skills, which is the main goal of the program." The Pitcherers’ Association implements the mentioned training program by the decision of the council granting the right to implement vocational training/vocational retraining programs. The training method includes both theoretical and practical lessons. The knowledge and skills acquired within the program will help the trainees to get the best quality pitcher wine in their own wineries", said Gia Gamtkistulashvili.
The duration of the course of the state program "Pitcher and pitcher wine specialist" is 6 weeks. The Pitcherers' association "Kvevris Mze" received the first trainees on April 11, 2023; The first group of 15 trainees completed the training process on May 23. The training course covers such issues as care of a pitcher, making wine in a pitcher, extracting wine and chacha into fractions, organoleptic evaluation of wine in a pitcher.
The state program "Pitcher and pitcher wine specialist" is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia.
