An international education program was created for the purposes of promoting Georgian wine
The Georgian Sommeliers Association organized the presentation of international education program "Georgian Wine" in Tbilisi, which was created for the purposes of promoting Georgian wine
This project aimed at promotion of Georgian wine is implemented with the support of the National Wine Agency.
The presentation of the program was hosted by the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla, and the President of te Georgian Sommeliers Association, Shalva Khetsuriani.
"The National Wine Agency welcomes and supports all initiatives aimed at promoting and increasing awareness of Georgian wine. Georgia is the homeland of wine, for Georgians wine is a part of Georgian culture, identity, traditions and history. The accessibility to qualified education and knowledge about all of the above is important for the development of the wine sector," said Levan Mekhuzla.
As noted by Shalva Khetsuriani, the international education program was created specifically for Georgian and foreign wine professionals and amateurs.
"The goal of the program is that wine professionals be able to thoroughly study Georgian wine and then successfully promote it on the international and domestic markets. The program includes all the necessary knowledge needed to introduce consumers to Georgian wine both in Georgia and on export markets", said Shalva Khetsuriani.
The duration of the new education course is 7 months. The program ends with an exam and has two qualification levels. Registration for the course has already started; Studies will begin in the fall of current year. 25 lecturers will teach different subjects to interested persons. It should be noted that similar education programs are carried out in France, Italy and Spain. The Georgian Sommeliers Association (GSA) was established in 2003; Since 2008, it has been a member of the Association of International Somalis (ASI), which unites 63 countries. GSA is the initiator of several wine education courses in Georgia, including International Sommelier, WSET, etc. The Georgian Sommeliers Association, with the support of the National Wine Agency, implements a number of projects to promote Georgian wine.
