A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the National Wine Agency and the Georgian Rugby Union
A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the National Wine Agency and the Georgian Rugby Union, which was signed by the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla, and the General Director of the Georgian Rugby Union, Ioseb Tkemaladze.
Within the framework of the memorandum, in order to promote Georgian wine and Georgian rugby, joint events will be held before and during the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Presentations and tastings of Georgian wine will be held in the cities of France, where meetings of the Georgian national rugby team are planned, and the public will have the opportunity to learn about the ancient history and traditions of Georgian sports.
According to Levan Mekhuzla, Georgia is the birthplace of wine, and therefore, it should be emphasized that for Georgians, wine is a part of Georgian culture, identity, traditions and history. Rugby, on its part, certainly expresses the fighting spirit and character of Georgians. He noted that this memorandum will bring significant results to both directions and the Rugby World Cup will be the best platform for promoting Georgian wine and Georgia in general.
The number of rugby fans in the world is approximately 1.2 billion. With our victory we have gained confidence, we are eleventh and we have even greater ambition. With this high confidence of ours, we want to offer Georgian products, first of all Georgian wine, to the whole world, noted Ioseb Tkemaladze.
After signing of the memorandum, the premiere of the film Leloburti of former rugby player and politician Irakli Tripolski was held. The film explores the roots of centuries-old Georgian game #Lelo burti rugby and its connection to the tradition of a similar game in Great Britain.
The event was attended by Iuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, representatives of the National Wine Agency, the Georgian National Rugby Team, the Rugby Union and Georgian wine producing companies.
According to the memorandum, after the end of the World Rugby Championship, events of a similar format will become a part of all the major international tournaments where Georgian Borjgalosnebi will participate.
