Program for vineyards cadastre in viticulture regions of west Georgia
The program has already been completed in the regions of Kakheti, Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Samtskhe-Javakheti, where 45,312 hectares of vineyards in total have been described.
The program will be carried out in the regions of Imereti, Samegrelo and Guria and the Autonomous Republic of Adjara in 2023, thus fully covering the viticulture regions of Georgia.
Cadastre of vineyards is one of the main conditions for the development of the field of viticulture and the promotion of quality wine production. It ensures an organized and transparent harvest process, as well as the traceability of grape products.
The vineyard cadastre is created by registering each vineyard plot and includes the grape varieties in the vineyard, the date of planting, the condition of the vineyard, etc. Information is collected in the field conditions, by interviewing viticulturists and identifying vineyard plots on aerial photographs.
The National Wine Agency has been carrying out the cadastre program of vineyards of Georgia since 2014. Vineyard cadastres are available in all EU member states where the viticulture and winemaking industry is developed.
