Relevant services of the National Wine Agency carry out continuous quality control of wine and spirits

Ensuring international standards of quality of alcoholic beverages produced in Georgia, including Georgian wine, increases the competitiveness of these products on local and international markets.
For the purposes of controling the quality of wine and alcoholic beverages, the National Wine Agency carried out state control and state supervision in 48 wine companies in 2022, which refers to determining the compliance of the technological process of wine in enterprises with the requirements established by the legislation of Georgia. Out of 972 samples taken, violations were found in 30 samples from 18 companies.

During the reporting period, 243 inspection controls were also carried out, which refers to determining the compliance of the alcoholic beverage or spirit drink sample with the lot submitted for certification. 624 samples were taken. In addition, international audit companies "SGS" and "Bureau Veritas" carried out 200 inspections in the registration economic zone. In total, non-compliance was found in 33 samples from 19 companies during the inspection.

For the purpose of organoleptic testing of export alcoholic beverages, 280 tastings were conducted. A total of 12,632 samples were received,  out of which 630 samples were evaluated negatively.
As part of the control in the local consumer market, 125 samples were taken, on which laboratory studies are being carried out.
In order to strengthen the quality control of Georgian alcoholic beverages, from January 1, 2023, alcoholic beverages produced in Georgia intended for sale on the domestic market were subjected to mandatory certification.
