The winner of the competition “The Best Sommelier of Georgia” has been identified

As a result of summarizing the outcomes of the competition assignments, Koba Abramishvili became the best sommelier of Georgia in 2022.
Levan Mekhuzla, the member of the competition jury, the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, spoke about the importance of the profession sommelier and noted that it plays one of the important roles in raising and promoting the culture of wine consumption.
"The profession of sommelier has already been established and is actively developing in Georgia. I would like to call everyone who is involved in the wine industry to appreciate this profession, since it is the sommelier who presents the wine to the customer and transfers information about the culture and history of wine, the person of this profession is the direct intermediary between the wine producer and the customer. It is important to introduce the culture of proper wine consumption in Georgia, in which sommeliers have a great role," said Levan Mekhuzla.
Ten sommeliers participated in the competition, three of which moved to the final stage. As a result of summarizing the outcomes of several competition assignments, the jury identified the winner of the competition, sommelier Koba Abramishvili.
Shalva Khetsuriani, president of the Association of Sommeliers of Georgia, chaired the jury of the competition. The jury included the Chairman of the National Wine Agency Levan Mekhuzla, the Head of the Marketing and Public Relations Department of the National Wine Agency Tamar Metreveli, moreover, other industry experts.
The guest of honor of the competition was the President of the Association of Sommeliers of Ukraine, Ivan Bachurin.
Within the framework of the event, the title of "Honorary Sommelier of Georgia" was awarded to directors Nana Jorjadze and Otar Ioseliani, screenwriter Tamar Bartaia, Director of the National Museum of Georgia, scientist Davit Lortkifanidze and chess player Nona Gaprindashvili. The "Georgian Wine Order" established by the Association of Sommeliers of Georgia for the special contribution to the field of winemaking in Georgia was awarded to Irma Chanturia, Director of Wine Laboratory LLC, after her death.
