From January 1, 2023, alcoholic beverages intended for sale on the domestic market are subject to mandatory certification.
One of the National Wine Agency's main activities is promoting the quality assurance of Georgian wine. The goal of the agency is to ensure that alcoholic beverage produced in the country fully meet international standards.
Based on the above, from January 1, 2023, certification of alcoholic beverages produced in Georgia and intended for sale in Georgia, PDO wines, and PDO alcoholic beverages becomes mandatory.
Corresponding amendments to the "Law of Georgia on Grapes and Wine" were introduced in 2021.
Certification of alcoholic beverages produced in Georgia and intended for sale in Georgia will contribute to the maximum control of alcoholic beverages and protection against falsification of the consumer market, expansion, and development of the competitive market of wine and other alcoholic beverages of grape origin in Georgia.
The manufacturer or the person implementing the sale of alcoholic beverages, when selling the products on the local market, is obliged to have a certificate of conformity for the products, which is issued by the LEPL National Wine Agency based on the protocol issued by the accredited laboratory, which will be a guarantee that the identified products comply with the requirements determined by the legislation of Georgia.
