Otar Shamugia: "The main promise was fulfilled - the vintage was carried out in an organized manner, the winegrowers delivered the grapes and received income"
The vintage in Kakheti and Racha is almost over, and at this stage, it is being carried out in Lechkhumi. The process will be completed in a few days. Our main promise was that the vintage would take place in an organized manner, and all the growers would fully deliver the grapes and receive the income. This promise has been fulfilled", said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, at the end of the government session.
As the minister noted, the vintage was organized; In the Kakheti region, more than 21 thousand winegrowers received 250 million GEL income. About 11 million GEL income was received by the winegrowers in Racha. In total, the resources directed by the state to support the vintage, within the framework of the vintage subsidy program, which was implemented by the government's decision, amount to approximately 100 million GEL.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank each grower who worked hard to get the harvest. Also, I would like to thank the agencies that were involved in the process - the National Wine Agency, as well as the local authorities, all those who were involved so that our winegrowers had the opportunity to deliver the grapes in an organized and successful way without interruptions. One important factor that should be noted - as a result of the measures and initiatives we have implemented, we have been able to, as promised, increase the involvement of the private sector as much as possible. In Racha, almost 100% of the harvest was taken over by the private sector, and as for Kakheti, more than 75% of the grapes were taken over by private companies. This is a healthy process. It is very important that the state's involvement in the process is less and that the private sector receives, processes grapes and produces wine. Of course, we promote the growth of wine exports, promote them, diversify markets, and spend millions of GEL to increase the popularity of our wine in priority markets. We will continue this process next year as well and we will use more resources to present our Georgian wine in more markets," Otar Shamugia said.
