At the Wine Museum Ortsmuseum Hongg Ethno in Zurich, Switzerland, visitors will have the opportunity to see exhibits, artifacts, and other informative material related to Georgian wine culture and history for six months.
The exhibition is organized by the LEPL National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Georgian Wine Gallery (GeoHaus GmbH) in Zurich, with the support of the Embassy of Georgia in the Swiss Confederation.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Davit Tkemaladze, the exhibition is especially important for the growth of the promotion of Georgia, Georgian wine culture and history in Switzerland and Europe.
"Switzerland is the financial, economic, tourist, and cultural center of Europe. Holding the exhibition "Georgia - 8000 years of winemaking" in Zurich is especially important for the growth of Georgian wine awareness and export potential. The exhibits presented at the museum will give the visitor an idea of the environment where Georgians have been making wine for millennia, "said Davit Tkemaladze.
The exhibition was officially opened with a vine planting ceremony, within the framework of the exhibition, regular presentation-tastings and thematic meetings with wine professionals will be held.
"It is extremely important to position our identity in Europe and to actively demonstrate that we are an integral part of Europe. In this regard, the promotion of Georgian wine is very important. I am glad that recently, together with the National Wine Agency and private companies involved in the process of popularizing Georgian wine, activities in this direction have been intensified and implemented, "said the Ambassador of Georgia to the Swiss Confederation, Revaz Lominadze, who attended the opening of the exhibition.
It should be noted that the Georgian vine varieties planted in the museum space of the Ortsmuseum Hongg were selected from the Jigaura collection farm.
"In the museum, where Georgian wine and vine popularization events will be systematically held for six months, several varieties from Jigaura collection plants have been planted: Goruli Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli, Shavkapito, Alexandrouli and others. The information presented about Georgian vine varieties presented here will help popularize Georgian wine and vines, "said Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Research Center of the Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
