Government of Georgia has adopted a resolution on the technical regulation on “Defining general rules for producing alcoholic beverages of grape origin, spirits and the list of legal processes, materials, and substances"
The purpose of the respective regulation is to determine the uniform principles for regulating the production and selling of alcoholic beverages of grape origin and spirits.

The regulation sets out the general rules and requirements for labeling, presenting, placing on the market, and for using the legal names of spirit drinks and alcoholic beverages of grape origin. Moreover, the regulation provides special requirements for wine companies ( including the list of persons), which undertake control (supervision) over compliance with the requirements of technical regulations.

Materials and substances allowed for the production of alcoholic beverages and alcohol of grape origin were also determined.

In accordance with the new regulation, the alcohol of grape origin should not be allowed on the consumer market without packaging in protective wrappings and containers, therefore, variations in alcohol content may not exceed 0.3 percent alcohol by volume above or below the alcohol content stated on the label.
The technical regulations also lay down the categories of the brandy, according to the age or maturity of the brandy spirit.

The technical regulation has been developed in accordance with the Law of Georgia on Vine and Wine, therefore, compliance with the requirements is mandatory for all wine companies which undertake entrepreneurial activities, entailing the production of alcoholic beverages of grape origin and spirits.
