"New Wine Festival" is hosted by Mtatsminda Park
With the support of the National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Georgian Wine Club, the 12th "New Wine Festival" is being held in Mtatsminda Park.
150 wine producers, including about 100 small family cellars from different parts of Georgia are participating in the festival. Wine producers invited the guests to taste the wines of harvest 2020 from different regions of Georgia.
The New Wine Festival was opened by Malkhaz Kharbedia, President of the Georgian Wine Club, and Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
According to Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency, the main goal of the festival is to promote Georgian wine and increase consumer culture.
"The National Wine Agency is a supporter of the New Wine Festival this year, as in previous years. New Wine Festival serves to popularize Georgian wine and increase its awareness, as well as to introduce new producers, new varieties and wines. The event is especially important to support small and medium-sized wineries, which are given the best opportunity to introduce their products to wine professionals and consumers. It is especially important for us to promote the development of small and medium-sized wine production," - said Levan Mekhuzla.
The festival traditionally began with the Qvevri opening ceremony. Wine Club had selected Nino Mghebrishvili's family cellar "Usakhelauri” wine and the guests of the festival were given the opportunity to taste it.
The following best wines of Kakheti, Kartli, Imereti, Guria, Samegrelo, Racha-Lechkhumi, Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti are presented at the New Wine Festival: Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Otskhanuri Sapere, Kisi, Khikhvi, Chinuri, Kakhuri Mtsvane, Tavkveri, Shavkapito, Ojale,Orbeluri Ojaleshi, Alexandrouli, Mujuretuli, Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Krakhuna, Tsulukidzis Tetra, Chkhaveri, Dzelshavi, Skhilatubani, Kundza, Khidistauri, Kakhuri Mtsvivani, Saperavi Budeshurisebri, etc. The wines were selected by the tasting commission of the Wine Club
Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival is held in accordance with the rules of recommendations. Last year, due to the situation in the world, the festival was held in online format.
