Georgian wine festival in Hong Kong and Shanghai
Georgian wine festival was held in Hong Kong and Shanghai, were different brand names of 9 Georgian wine producing companies were introduced.
Georgian wine festival was hosted by Shanghai “Roosevelt House” and hotel in Hong-Kong, “Cordis”. The event was organized by National Wine Agency and international marketing company, “Meiburg Wine Media”.
Georgian wine masterclasses and degustation was lead by the head of “Meiburg Wine Media” company, wine magister, Debra Meiburg. The festival was attended by the head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili and representatives of the Agency.
The head of National Wine Agency mentioned, that Georgian wine consumption on China market has been progressing since 2014.
“Progressing tendency in China started two years ago and is still sustained up today. Georgian wine publicity is raising as a result of important performed work. The whole wine industry is involved in Georgian wine promotion on China market including National Wine Agency and wine producing companies. Relationship with China on governmental level is progressing, that has significant influence on wine sales”-mentioned Giorgi Samanishvili.
Wine magister, Debra Meiburg talked about Georgian wine significance.
“Georgian wine can offer broad diversity of great varieties of different wines to try, for example new styles of wines, wines that are a little bit lower in alcohol and have freshness of fruit, for the collectors, “Saperavi” ages beautifully, there are different styles for different types of consumers in China”-mentioned Meiburg.
Georgian wine festival was attended by many visitors: representatives of native media, wine industry, hotels and restaurants, import companies, wine educational and marketing companies, which is very important for Georgian wine popularization on China market.
The guests were getting information about Georgian wine history and culture during the day, tasting Georgian wines with popular native meals.
The following wines of different styles were introduced at the festival: “Bagrationi”, “Chateau Mukhrani”, “Dugladze Wines and Spirits”, “ “GWS”, “Kakhetian Traditional Winery”, “Kakhetian Wine Cellar”, “Winery Khareba”, “Mildiani”, “Usakhelauri Vineyeards”.
During the visit in Hong-Kong, Giorgi Samanishvili and representative of National Wine Agency in China, Maia Tskitishvili met representative of Wine Academy of Hong-Kong, Christ Lai and Tersina Shieh, who is wine culture spreader in China, wine consulter, marketer, wine maker, consulter of food and wine combination and blogger. The members of the meeting talked about spreading Georgian wine on Hong-Kong market and popularization matters and future development perspectives.
According to data of 6 months of the current year, 1.9 mil bottles of wine was exported in China, which is 148% higher, than the similar data of the last year. 2015 year was extremely important for Georgian wine export in People’s Republic of China – progress exceeded 122% compared to 2014, total export amounted to 2 672 154 bottles (0.75l). China takes the fourth place in the five of Georgian wine exporter countries after Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
