The harvest in Kakheti is going on successfully - Deputy Minister
Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia got acquainted with the vintage process at the Telavi Coordination Headquarters.
As of September 10, 65,000 tons of grapes have been processed in Kakheti, which is almost 4 times more than in the same period last year. Up to 15 thousand tons of processed grapes are hail-damaged grapes.
According to the Deputy Minister, during the vintage process, all the conditions are created for the viticulturists to hand over the grape harvest to the enterprises without any delay.
"The vintage coordination headquarters is fully mobilized to ensure that the vintage is carried out without any delays. Our task is to support our growers as much as possible in the process of handing over the grapes. In addition, we have started receiving applications from the hail-affected growers since today. According to the decision of the Government of Georgia, the population affected by the hail in Kakheti region on August 26 and September 2, whose harvest has been completely destroyed, will receive one-time compensation, ”said Otar Shamugia.
The amount of one-time compensation is set at 3,000 GEL per hectare, and those farmers who have 100% damaged harvest, who have already handed over and received up to 3000 GEL, for example 1000 GEL per hectare, the state will fill the remaining difference, 2000 GEL. The total amount of grants received / to be received for one person registered in viticulture cadaster before September 10 of the current year should not exceed 60,000 GEL. The population affected by the hail in Kakheti region should apply to the Kakheti Regional Service and Municipal Centers of the Rural Development Agency for one-time compensation.
Grape growers handed over 1 kg of Rkatsiteli grapes damaged by hail for 0.80 GEL and 1 kg of Saperavi for 1 GEL. In addition, the beneficiaries of the hail-affected state agro-insurance program will be reimbursed.
