Viticulturist Piruz Ioramashvili, whose harvest was damaged by hail thanks the government for its prompt response and support
Heavy hail and wind on August 26 damaged 4600 hectares of vineyards in Gurjaani, Telavi and Kvareli municipalities.
According to Piruz Ioramashvili, a resident of the village of Gavazi in Kvareli Municipality, the day after the hail came, he was given the opportunity to hand over the damaged Rkatsiteli grapes to the Crop Management Company Ltd. The degree of damage to vineyards in the village of Gavazi is in the range of 70-90%.
"Representatives of the government came that day, I really did not expect such support - they help us as much as possible. I was given the opportunity to hand over the harvest on the same day, and at the same time we are paid 80 tetri in the harvested Rkatsiteli. I really did not expect so much attention, I want to thank the government for the whole village, "- said the viticulturist.
Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Leri Barnabishvili, Head of the Department of Regional Relations of the Government of Georgia and Irakli Shioshvili, State Representative of Kakheti Region met with Piruz Ioramashvili in the village of Gavazi today and informed him about all the measures that would be taken by the government to support the vine-growers affected by the hail: viticulturists, whose harvest was 100% destroyed will receive 3000 GEL per hectare as a one-time compensation. The viticulturists will be able to deliver the grapes damaged by the hail until September 3: 1 kg of Rkatsiteli for 0.80 GEL and 1 kg of Saperavi for 1 GEL. In addition, farmers whose vineyards have been completely destroyed by the disaster will be fully funded to restore the yards under the state program "Implement the Future".
