Online tasting of Georgian wine was held in the USA
Online wine tasting of Georgian wine was held in the United States with the support of the National Wine Agency and the agency's contractor, Marq Energie Consulting Company. About 60 local sommeliers and wine writers, as well as Georgian wine producers took part in the event.
The online event was hosted by the head of Marq Energie Consulting - Julie Peterson and American top sommelier Taylor Parsons. The participants of the seminar were welcomed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the United States of America, Davit Bakradze.
During the two-hour online tasting, wine professionals had the opportunity to taste pre-shipped Western Georgian wines that are already on the US market. The focus of this tasting was on the various wines and wine cellars of western Georgia. Along with the tasting, the participants got acquainted with the history, culture and modern industry of Georgian wine.
The United States of America is a strategic market for Georgian wine, where the National Wine Agency, in cooperation with the private wine industry, implements measures consistent with marketing strategy. As a result, Georgian wine exports to the US market have been growing steadily for the past 6 years. In 2020, up to 912 thousand bottles of wine were exported from Georgia, which is 34% more than in 2019. In January-April of this year, 325 thousand bottles of wine have been exported (an increase of 2%).
In order to maintain the growing rate of Georgian wine exports, during the COVID-19 global pandemic, the National Wine Agency continues to promote Georgian wine in the United States, mainly using remote formats and online platforms.
