Vineyards registration and cadastral information updating is in progress in Kakheti region
At this stage, registration of vineyards and updating of cadastral information is underway in the following municipalities: Kvareli, Gurjaani, Signagi (villages of Tsnori region), Telavi and Akhmeta. In other municipalities of the region, viticulturists will receive additional information on the start of registration. Registration is possible at the existing registration points located in the above-mentioned municipalities and villages.
Registration of all vineyards planted with white grape and red grape varieties is mandatory. The 2021 vintage is planned on the bases of cadastral data. Upgrades are required in case of a vineyard changes - purchase, sale, rental, donation, cultivation or uprooting.
The National Wine Agency has been implementing the Georgian Vineyard Cadaster Program since 2014. Due to the pandemic, in 2020, the field work of the program was suspended. Work was going on only in the direction of upgrading and updating the data. In 2021, up to 26 thousand hectares of aerial photography are planned in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi.
The vineyard cadaster is created by collecting detailed information about the identification and registration of each vineyard plot, which includes the information about vine varieties in the vineyard, the date of planting, the condition of the vineyard, etc. Information is collected in the field, by surveying growers and identifying the vineyards shown in aerial photographs.
The vineyard cadaster is available in all EU member states where the viticulture and winemaking industry is developed. Creating Georgian vineyard cadaster will be another step towards European experience.
Completion of the vineyard cadaster program in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions is scheduled this year.
