The wine "Akhoebi" was added to the protected designations of origin (PDO)
Wine "Akhoebi" was added to the PDOs registered in Georgia.
"Akhoebi" is a red dry wine. The micro-zone is located in the administrative territory of the village of Kardenakhi, Gurjaani Municipality. "Akhoebi" red can be made only from Saperavi or Budeshuri-like Saperavi grapes grown in the Akhoebi microzone and it is not allowed to use other varieties.
The geographical location of the Akhoebi micro-zone is the moderately warm winters and hot summers, the average amount of atmospheric precipitation, the brown, carbonate soils, the properties of the vine varieties specifically in this micro-zone determine the special organoleptic characteristics and distinction of the wine Akhoebi.
The National Center for Intellectual Property Sakpatenti was applied by "Kardenakhi Wine" with the request to register a geographical indication. Thus, the number of PDO wines has increased to 24: Kindzmarauli, Manavi, Kakheti, Napareuli, Teliani, Mukuzani, Tsinandali, Akhasheni, Gurjaani, Khvanchkara, Ateni, Sviri, Vazisubani, Kardenakhi, Tibaani, Tvishi, Kvareli, Kotekhi, Khashmis Saperavi, Bolnisi, Salkhino Ojale, Akhmeta, Tsarafi and Akhoebi.
This fact indicates the diversity of Georgian wine and is especially important for its popularization and growth of export potential.
The National Wine Agency participated in the preparation of the production specification and other technical issues related to the production of "Akhoebi" within the framework of the " Development of the system of designations of origins of Georgian wine".
