Tsarapi wine has been added to the PDOs registered in Georgia. The National Center for Intellectual Property Sakpatenti was applied by "Tsarapi Wine" with the request to register a geographical indication.
By registering Tsarapi, the number of PDO wines has increased to 23, which indicates the diversity and uniqueness of Georgian vine varieties and wines, and is especially important in terms of popularization of Georgian wine and growth of export potential.
The National Wine Agency participated in the preparation of the specification for the production of Tsarafi and other technical issues related to registration within the framework of the " Development of the system of designations of origins of Georgian wine”.
"Tsarapi" is an amber dry wine. The micro-zone is located in the administrative territory of the village of Kardenakhi, Gurjaani Municipality. "Tsarapi" is made only from Rkatsiteli grapes grown in Tsarapi microzone. Up to 15% of Kakhuri Mtsvane and / or Khikhvi grapes can be added to Rkatsiteli grapes during the production of Tsarapi. It is not allowed to use other varieties.
Geographical location of Tsarapi micro-zone, characteristic climate: moderately cold winters and hot summers, average amount of atmospheric precipitation, fairly high rate of active temperatures, forest brown, humus-carbonate soils, special features of vine varieties and viticulture, the local, centuries-old tradition of viticulture and winemaking leads to the special organoleptic characteristics and a high reputation of wine "Tsarafi".
