12.05.2020

Wine "Akhmeta" was added to the PDOs registered in Georgia. The National Wine Agency applied to the National Intellectual Property Center "Sakpatenti" with a request to register a geographical indication.
The geographical location of the Akhmeta micro-zone: the transition from the dry subtropical to the moderately humid subtropical typical of the region, the dark brown carbonate soils, the distinctive features of the green Kakhetian vine in this micro-zone, make the wine "Akhmeta" particularly worthy.
"Akhmeta" (additional designation "Akhmeta Green") is a white or amber wine. The micro-zone is located within the administrative boundaries of Akhmeta municipality and in addition to the city of Akhmeta, includes the villages: Sakobiano, Matani, Kistauri, Arashenda, Akhshani, Akhshnisvelebi, Ingeti, Kojori, Osiauri, Sachale, Ozhio, Alaverdi, Koghoti, Chabinaani, Khorkheli, Zemo Khodasheni, Atskuri, Akhaldaba, Charekauli, Zemo Alvani, Khorbalo, Kvemo Alvani, Babaneuli, Magraani, Pichkhovani and Argokhi.
"Akhmeta" Tetri can be made only from Kakhuri Mtsvane grapes grown in the Akhmeta micro-zone, while "Akhmeta" amber can be made from Kakhuri Mtsvane grapes and can be added Qisi or Khikhvi grown in the same micro-zone, up to 15% of the total.
Until now, 21 PDOs were registered in Georgian.
