The wine "Salkhino Ojaleshi" was added to the PDOs registered in Georgia.
Until now, 20 PDOs were registered in Georgian: Kindzmarauli, Manavi, Kakheti, Napareuli, Teliani, Mukuzani, Tsinandali, Akhasheni, Gurjaani, Khvanchkara, Ateni, Sviri, Vazisubani, Kardenakhi, Tibaani, Tvishi, Kvareli, Kotekhi, Khashmis Saperavi, Bolnisi.
"Salkhino Ojaleshi" is dry red wine, the micro-zone is located within the administrative boundaries of Martvili Municipality. It can be made only from Ojaleshi grapes grown in Salkhino micro-zone and it is not allowed to use other varieties. 
The National Wine Agency implements state control over the protection of the production specification and the correct use of the designation of origin in accordance with the rules established by the legislation of Georgia.
Geographical location of Salkhino micro-zone: humid subtropical climate of the sea typical for the region with warm winters and hot summers, moderate amount of atmospheric precipitation, soil diversity, special characteristics of Ojaleshi vine variety unique to this micro-zone and local, centuries-old tradition of viticulture and winemaking cause the unique organoleptic properties of Salkhino Ojaleshi, unique to this wine.
The National Center for Intellectual Property Sakpatenti was applied by "Salkhino Ojaleshi" with the request to register a geographical indication. 
The National Wine Agency participated in the preparation of the production specification for the "Salkhino Ojaleshi" wine and other technical issues related to the registration within the framework of the " Development of the system of designations of origins of Georgian wine”.
The registration of another PDO indicates the diversity and uniqueness of Georgian vine varieties and wines, which is especially important in terms of popularization of Georgian wine and growth of export potential.

Georgian Wine
