“Georgian Wine Culture Reflected in 19th Century French Photos” exhibition
“Georgian Wine Culture Reflected in 19th Century French Photos” exhibition is opened in National Wine Agency, photos about Georgian wine and vine culture, secured in different museums and archives of France are introduced. The fair organizer is cultural heritage curator, Ana Cheishvili.
The opening of the fair was attended by Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Danelia, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, representatives of winery field and other persons concerned.
This is the first time Georgian visitors have opportunity to see the photos mentioned above.
Among the European explorers, who were travelling in Georgia during 19th century, French people were the most interested in Georgian vine and wine culture study. This is proved by the materials secured in French archives: photos, ethnographic notes and expedition reports. Introduction of the photos mentioned above to the wide audience is important for Georgian vine and wine history and culture popularization. In the photos captured in different regions of Georgia, there are scenes of vintage, wine treading, wine importance on Georgian festive table, different wine clay wares, Qvevris and etc. The photos are subjoined by ethnographic notes made by French authors.
The fair mentioned above was introduced in Paris, on April 28 this year, in OIV, Georgian wine presentation and degustation was organized. The fair gained great interest of the guests of OIV.
The exhibition will last till July 28.
